ADO.NET is a computer software framework (a library of objects and commands) that programmers use to allow application access to databases. Part of the base class library included with Microsoft’s .NET Framework, ADO.NET is built on Microsoft’s ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) technology and is designed to be language neutral and flexible enough to support a wide variety of software development needs. While commonly used against relational database systems, ADO.NET can also access non-relational data sources such as XML documents.
