Izenda's Instant Reports Designer adds simplicity for better user adoption.Embedding a self-service business intelligence and analytics platform adds great functionality to your application. But if you make it tough for customers to create their own reports, you can’t call it self-service.

Izenda updated the Instant Reports Designer for our analytics platform. This made it simpler and added other improvements earlier this summer. In this article and the accompanying short video, we’ll show you its drag-and-drop simplicity.

Izenda includes the Instant Reports Designer we’re discussing and our legacy designer. Now users have more flexibility to lay out and design their reports. There’s no need to go into the viewer because you can see the report as you build it.

The Instant Report Designer makes it easier for users to search the data model and get a highlighted listing of the available columns or data sources. Choose a data source and you’ll see that the list shrinks to show other data sources that are joined to this selection. We’ve improved the speed of loading when choosing many data sources.

Izenda caches the database schema, but we also offer a constraint engine. So the user can set up exactly how to join different data sources.

Drag-and-Drop Simplicity

Drag and drop what’s needed for the report into a preview window and the field option panel appears. This lets the user adjust functions, set up formatters and subtotals, create groupings, apply basic styling, and affect justifications. Open up the advanced properties to set a calculated field expression. This enables business users to create new metrics to better understand the data.

Users can set up filters by dragging and dropping fields they want to parameterize. They can require users to fill in filters before the report runs.

This speeds the time to question and the time to answer for better data insight.

Build Pivots in Instant Report Designer

Izenda added pivot tables in the Instant Report Designer. Once a user adds pivots, they can begin adding charts like an Auto Chart visualization, which lets users switch between chart types. Add any of the visualizations included in the Vision package. These visualizations build off of the table structure and can pick up hierarchies to allow for drill downs. This table structure works with other visualizations as well, such as the tree chart, sunburst and heat map. This adds functionality for users to explore the data visualization to discover more insights.

Full Formatting Options for Reports

Izenda’s white-labeling properties enable an ISV to make the embedded analytics platform’s appearance match its core application. Your customers can format their own reports to add titles, descriptions, headers, and footers, set up colors and styles and even override the CSS. The Instant Report Designer includes the same formatting options of the legacy designer.

Share, Schedule Reports and Alerts

This update streamlines sharing and scheduling reports. Previous releases required the use of the legacy designer mode. But now it’s a seamless part of the Instant Report Designer workflow. This includes scheduling reports on a repeating or triggered alerts basis and choosing how recipients will receive them. A user can set sharing rights for reports and choose its category, too.

No Need for IT with Instant Report Designer

Izenda empowers non-technical users to create and customize reports without requiring IT’s help.  Also, the user has complete control over access to features based on their roles. Or you can uses this to monetize the functionality in your application.
